Behlen Nitrocellulose Stringed Instrument Lacquer

About This Item

A hard, durable finish that's less brittle and more flexible than standard furniture lacquer.

Stringed Instrument Lacquer is specifically formulated to accommodate the expansion and contraction of wooden instruments.

Stringed Instrument Lacquer finish has better resistance to cold-checking and scuffs than standard furniture lacquer. It's ready to spray with no thinning required, for faster finish build-up in multiple coats. This lacquer is designed for use on wood which has been sealed with Behlen Vinyl Sealer, or on unfinished wood.

1-quart can.

One can goes a long way! One quart will finish:
1 acoustic guitar body and neck
2 entire mandolins
2 to 3 solid guitar or bass bodies
3 to 5 electric guitar or bass necks
4 ukuleles
2 to 3 dulcimers
2 to 3 banjo rims and necks

Keep in mind there are many application variables: your spray gun adjustments, PSI used, how heavy the coats are applied, number of coats, and desired thickness on your instrument.

Lacquer products are flammable! They cannot be shipped outside the USA nor shipped by air within the USA. Nitrocellulose lacquer products should not be used with acrylic lacquers.

Easy finish to work with...

Super fast drying and forgiving for those who might get an occasional run now and again. Very professional results though and makes for beautiful hand rubbed finish when you let it cure.

With a decent spray gun set up right there is no better way to finish than with Behlen Nitro. Clear or tinted it looks fantastic.

I've been shooting lacquer for over 28 years in my restorations and by far Behlen has become my go to lacquer because of the high level finish and the ease of control and use.

It got a little expensive ordering rattlecans for every guitar I was refinishing.I decided to bring my spray guns and compressor out and this is the product I chose.Sprays very nicely. It goes on evenly and I have sprayed it right out of the can.It is very easy to work with and is just so user friendly!

My ABSOLUTE go-to in guitar lacquer...

By

Verified Buyer

I've been using the Behlen's Stringed Instrument lacquer for literally decades. I always get the results I expect, and I can price a finish job accurately knowing that. From start to finish, the Stringed Instrument Lacquer is my primary lacquer. I mix my washes, shaders, intermediate coats, AND my gloss top coats with this lacquer. The only modification I've made is I add just a dash of universal flex additive to each quart as soon as I open the can.....and I mean a 'dash'. For me it's insurance against premature checking, and there's absolutely no change to the finish hardness or tone.

Don't mess with the rest, go with the best!
